revised goals

alas, i forgot to mention that i am also interested in practicing conversation. sato sensei, when are you available? and every other week sounds great!! i'm available mondays and wednesday after 2:45, tuesdays after 5, thursdays, between 1-2, then after 4:30.

long term goals included - ability to engage in conversation with a native speaker, understand a few j-pop songs, and successfully differentiate between kanji and chinese traditional characters, and correctly spell katana. i have tendencies to want to use chinese pronunciation which is wrong! speaking of chinese, i also have tendencies to want to speak mandarin instead of japanese, which is indeed frustrating. ugh....

individual goals for elementary japanese

1. study at least 1.5 hours a day
a. 15 minutes listening comprehension
b. 20 minutes grammar
c. 20 minutes vocabulary
d. 20 minutes exercises
e. 10 minutes talking to myself hahahah (repeating and making up grammar patterns)
2. review katana words for 15 minutes a day
3. check courseworks DAILY for online quizzes

i often neglect japanese because i've fulfilled my core and major requirements but this must come to an end because i've invested about $3,000 in this class and i better get my money's worth!

so i'm sitting in the IAB lab in japanese. it's a shame that i'm two weeks behind on my entries, i've got to catch up for crying out loud. class is over AH time to meet a friend for beers!!!!

busy bee

due to a massive workload i've abandoned my poor journal...shame on me. aside from studies i'm gearing up on an independent study project.

i'll attempt to study the correlation between voter registration and the government's response to hurricane katrina; what percentage of the victims were registered voters? could this have contributed to the government's slow response?....details later. public interest rocks!

my にほんごじん friend introduced this singer to me さん years ago, and i've been smitten by her ever since. i'm unsure whether that's how you spell her name...i think かんじ is used for it and since i'm not familiar with かんじのstructure, i typed it in ひらがな instead.

my personal goal is to わかります one of her songs by the end of the semester; わたし sure do have a lot of studying to do in order to accomplish that.

きのうわたし learned a new word　”ばかね” which means 'stupid fool'. i've an older friend in atlanta georgia, and she にほんごじです and she told me to call "all jerks" ばかね。 unfortunately, i'm not the type of person to verbally insult others so i doubt i'll ever use it.

so i think i need to purchase a にほんごのじしょ. tonight i listened to lesson three vocabulary words and got completely thrown off with なんがい because the lady pronounced it "na n nai" (at least i think she did...i played it back until i got paranoid. i started to think: "hmmmm does the ん rule apply here? is she really saying 'na n gai' and i'm not hearing the 'g'? is が not the right character?" so yes that's where confusion set in and i stopped listening to her. わかりますじゃりません。

as for funkyuu...i believe that means complicated ふんきゅう

ok my web browser just shut down mid post and i typed much more than this but now i'm bummed so i better post this before i lose it. :-( don't worry i'll submit another blog later in the week.... *sigh* 　:```-( (those are tears)

はじめましょら

すみません！is this thing on? *taps the microphone* Oh yes, hello world. i do not understand why it took me a half hour to type those characters...for some odd reason they kept converting to kanji then disappear whenever i placed the cursor beside them...strange, very strange.

i'm not exactly sure where to begin. whenever i master the art of typing hiragana, this blog will be filled with random and sometimes silly anecdotes (unless i'm in a foul mood, which is rare).

this weekend i thought it would be amusing to order japanese food in chinese, but much to my surprise the guy who placed my order at the restaurant (hayashi ya) spoke chinese! ha! i then proceeded to tell him: watashi no koronbia wa daigakusei desu (which i think i totally butchered because he laughed). that was the highlight of my weekend, coupled with countless hours of studying/reading. ah yes, i completely forgot that i spent time with friends which was great.


i suppose i'll continue with my studies however i am getting hungry. you know, using の and わ confuses me, but i'm sure i'll figure it out someday. :-)
